‘Rock Of Ages’ Puts ’80s Hair Back In The Spotlight

Opening in theaters this Summer, ROCK OF AGES is the big screen adaptation of the mega-popular stage musical that began as a bar show in Los Angeles before going Off-Broadway and, eventually, Broadway. Directed by ADAM SHANKMAN, the all-star cast includes TOM CRUISE, JULIANNE HOUGH, DIEGO BONETA, MALIN AKERMAN, ALEC BALDWIN, BRYAN CRANSTON, RUSSELL BRAND, PAUL GIAMATTI and CATHERINE ZETA-JONES. Set in L.A. in 1987, this is a celebration of heavy metal that could well polarize the hair band fans. We had occasion to sit down with ROCK OF AGES co-writer CHRIS D’ARIENZO (with PATRICK WILSON, for their film BARRY MUNDAY) and he talked about how surprised he is at all the attention the show has gotten.
Currently in theaters (and holding the No. 2 slot behind THE HUNGER GAMES on the box office chart), WRATH OF THE TITANS is the sequel to the 2010 sword-and-sandal epic CLASH OF THE TITANS. As before, the story draws heavily from the Greek myths but, this time around, a father-son family dynamic has been added in the hopes of appeasing critics who complained of the lack of depth in the first film. Directed by JONATHAN LIEBESMAN, the cast includes SAM WORTHINGTON, LIAM NEESON, RALPH FIENNES, ROSAMUND PIKE, BILL NIGHY, DANNY HUSTON and LILY JAMES.‘Schindler’s List’ Producer Makes Anti-Obama Film

Along with Steven Spielberg, Gerald R. Molen has produced a string of successful and memorable Hollywood movies including the Oscar-winning “Schindler’s List.”
In contrast to Spielberg, who is a strong supporter of President Barack Obama, Molen has produced a new anti-Obama film, “Obama’s America: 2016,” which will be released at the kick-off of the general presidential election season.
Molen’s documentary is based on author Dinesh D’Souza’s book, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” and features the following marketing slogan: “Love Him Hate Him, You Don’t Know Him.”
The film explores themes in D’Souza’s book that analyze the formation of the president’s underlying political philosophy and motivation for his policies.
After establishing and analyzing the perspective from which Obama views the world, the film offers an assessment of what is likely to happen should the president win reelection and secure another four-year term.
The primary source for Molen’s film, D’Souza’s book, distinguishes Obama from traditional liberals who seek redistribution of wealth, and portrays the president as one who is striving to diminish the preeminence of the United States and reallocate power to weaker nations around the globe.
As D’Souza did in “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” the movie uses as source material Obama’s “Dreams from My Father” book, noting that the president’s father saw America as a colonialist nation that needed to be downsized.
“Obama’s America: 2016” will be released nationwide this coming summer in a season that is likely to include fiery general election campaign rhetoric.
Opening in theaters tomorrow, TITANIC 3D promises to give new life to the romantic drama that captured the hearts of moviegoers everywhere and was considered the biggest blockbuster of all time. Directed with obsessive detail by JAMES CAMERON, the film made household names of LEONARDO DiCAPRIO and KATE WINSLET as the star-crossed lovers doomed by circumstance to be apart for eternity.New To Blu: Steven Spielberg Gets Epic With ‘War Horse’

In theaters this week, AMERICAN REUNION is the fourth big-screen installment in the popular franchise that started with AMERICAN PIE in 1999. This time around, the story sees the entire original cast reassembled to celebrate their 10 year high school reunion. Probably best known for its over-the-top teen sex set pieces that began in the first movie with star JASON BIGGS having an “experience” with an apple pie, the “AMERICAN” franchise has always been on a quest to outdo itself. In REUNION, BIGGS lives up to his name by performing his first ever full-frontal display of flesh. We talked with stars BIGGS and HANNIGAN a couple of weeks ago and they gave a rather detailed description of the “delicate” filming. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO) PROBABLY NSFW
Currently in limited release, INTRUDERS is an intense psychological thriller that tells of two children, living in different countries, who are pursued nightly by an ominous, featureless figure wanting to possess them. Directed by JUAN CARLOS FRESNADILLO, the cast includes CLIVE OWEN, CARICE VAN HOUTEN, DANIEL BRUHL, ELLA PURNELL and KERRY FOX.
One of JAMES CAMERON’S most impressive accomplishments in bringing his epic blockbuster, TITANIC, to the screen was casting the lovely GLORIA STUART as the elder Rose, whose tortured on-board love affair with an unscrubbed Irish artist led to one of the silver screen’s greatest romances.
In theaters this summer, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN is the darker of this year’s two projects based on the popular fairy tale involving a beautiful princess, an evil queen, a charming prince and a cottage full of dwarfs. Unlike the currently running ‘campy’ MIRROR MIRROR, this incarnation is said to be a “more traditional” telling of the story and has the huntsman charged with taking Snow into the woods for execution, then becoming her protector and mentor. Directed by RUPERT SANDERS, the cast includes KRISTEN STEWART, CHRIS HEMSWORTH, CHARLIZE THERON, TOBY JONES, IAN McSHANE, NICK FROST and SAM CLAFLIN.
