Brad Pitt Dons Producer Hat For Message Mob Movie ‘Killing Them Softly’

Enjoying its world premiere earlier this week at the Cannes Film Festival, KILLING THEM SOFTLY is a stylishly rendered vision of what’s wrong with this country (and the capitalist system) masquerading as a gangster movie. Based on GEORGE V. HIGGINS’ pulpy 1974 novel COGAN’S TRADE, the film is directed by ANDREW DOMINIK (who co-wrote the screenplay with HIGGINS) and stars BRAD PITT (who also served as one of the film’s producers), SCOOT McNAIRY, BEN MENDELSOHN, JAMES GANDOLFINI, RICHARD JENKINS, RAY LIOTTA and SAM SHEPARD.Facing entertainment reporters at the Cannes press conference to promote the movie, PITT talked about why he wanted to get this project to the screen. Actor CLIVE OWEN recently met with entertainment press to talk about upcoming projects, not the least of which is HEMINGWAY AND GELLHORN, an HBO film about the romance, marriage and divorce of author ERNEST HEMINGWAY and celebrated Spanish Civil War correspondent MARTHA GELLHORN. Directed by PHILIP KAUFMAN from a script by JERRY STAHL and BARBARA TURNER, the film also stars NICOLE KIDMAN, ROBERT DUVALL, PARKER POSEY, TONY SHALOUB, DAVID STRATHAIRN, BROOKE ADAMS, PETER COYOTE and DIANE BAKER.An immensely watchable guilty pleasure, the film contains some terrific performances and seems to be fairly accurate historically’ Having done extensive research in preparation for his role, OWEN shared with us some of his thoughts about the legendary author.
