WILL FERRELL: ANCHORMAN 2-MAYBE….OLD SCHOOL 2- NOT SO MUCH
Posted by: | CommentsLAND OF THE LOST star WILL FERRELL has never been one for sequels or franchise films but when we spoke with him a couple of days ago he seemed to indicate that there has been some talk in his camp of changing all that. But, according to FERRELL, the idea works better for some titles more than others. Listen in below:
LAND OF THE LOST opens in theaters this week-end
ON THIS DAY IN MOVIES: THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH
Posted by: | CommentsOn this day in 1955, 20th CENTURY FOX released THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH, a delightfully funny comedy by BILLY WILDER & GEORGE AXELROD. Set in Manhattan during a sultry Summer, TOM EWELL plays a middle-aged man whose family is out of town when a sexy new neighbor (MARILYN MONROE) sparks a few fantasies. Harmless 50’s fun and responsible for that iconic MONROE subway grate scene.
ON THIS DAY IN SHOW BIZ: JOSEPHINE BAKER BORN
Posted by: | CommentsOn this day in 1906, legendary African American dancer and actress Josephine Baker was born on this day in St. Louis. The daughter of a single mother who worked as a domestic laborer, Josephine was singing in nightclubs by the time she was eight. By age 16, she was touring with a dance troupe. Later, she became a Broadway chorus girl. In 1925, Baker traveled to Paris with a show called La Revue Negre, featuring an all-black cast, including jazz great Sydney Bechet. Baker’s sinuous, flamboyant style infatuated the French, who called her the “black Venus.” She joined the Folies Bergere, dancing in a G-string decorated with bananas. To French audiences, Baker epitomized the Jazz Age. Baker became the most highly paid performer in Europe and began appearing in European films in the 1930s. She became a French citizen in 1937.
When World War II erupted, Baker worked with the French Resistance, driving an ambulance and entertaining the troops. The French government later awarded her the Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honor.
After the war, Baker purchased a large estate in southwest France and adopted 12 orphans of different nationalities, retiring in 1956 to care for her brood. However, keeping up such a large household was costly, and she began performing again to earn more money. She returned to the United States to take part in civil rights demonstrations in the 1960s. She continued to perform occasionally until her death in 1975.
ON THIS DAY IN MOVIES: BIG
Posted by: | CommentsCASTING FOR THIRD TWILIGHT MOVIE “ECLIPSE” HAS STARTED
Posted by: | CommentsLos Angeles (E! Online) – Casting for the third Twilight movie has begun.
We got our hands on a casting notice for at least three characters in Eclipse.
Find out just what director David Slade is looking for. However, we must warn you that there are a few spoilers…
Riley “is a handsome, blond, clean-cut college boy who falls victim to Victoria,” the notice reads. He’s in his early to mid 20s and “plays an integral role in Victoria’s attempt to murder Bella Swan.”
There are two more members of the Quileute tribe and La Push wolf pack in Eclipse. Like New Moon, they are looking for Native American or First Nations actors to fill the roles.
“Seth Clearwater is a “tall, gangly-limbed boy with a huge, happy grin,” the notice reads. “Seth idolizes Jacob.”
Seth’s big sister is 19-year-old Leah Clearwater and the only female member of La Push: “She is tall and slender with beautiful skin and short cropped black hair. She would be considered gorgeous if not for the perpetual scowl she carries due to a broken heart and her anger issues.”
Now that Eclipse is up and running, what about the fourth, Breaking Dawn? As much as everyone in the cast wants it to happen, it still sounds like nothing’s official…yet.
“I’m signed for three,” Peter Facinelli told me at the MTV Movie Awards. “I’m hoping that they make four. I mean, if New Moon does well, I think they’ll make four.”
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have said they want to make Breaking Dawn, too.
When asked about four, Ashley Greene said, “I can’t even think that far in advance.”
Or maybe she can.
“They’re just going to have to make a Twilight Five,” she cracked. “I will be forever known as a Twilight girl.”
Greene and Kellan Lutz said they’ll start shooting Eclipse in August.
OSCAR WINNING TEAM JACK NICHOLSON & JAMES L. BROOKS TO RETEAM
Posted by: | CommentsFor months, Bill Murray had been in talks to portray the blueblood father of Rudd’s character, but no deal closed. In recent weeks Murray’s interest in the project waned and he fell out of touch.
With Murray unresponsive and production scheduled to start in less than two weeks, Brooks reached out to Nicholson.
Brooks, who also penned the screenplay, is producing alongside Paula Weinstein (“Blood Diamond”), Laurence Mark (“Dreamgirls”) and Gracie Films prexy Julie Ansell.
Story involves a love triangle, with Rudd playing a white-collar executive vying for Witherspoon’s affections, and Wilson portraying a professional baseball pitcher who is also a love interest.
Two of Nicholson’s three Oscars have come via Brooks films: 1983’s “Terms of Endearment” and 1997’s “As Good as It Gets.”
HEIDI MONTAG & SPENCER PRATT OFFICALLY QUIT I’M A CELEBRITY…GET ME OUT OF HERE
Posted by: | CommentsAt the beginning of Tuesday night’s “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!,” host Damien Fahey announced that Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt would be sitting out the episode, after media reports surfaced that the pair known as Speidi had quit the show (although rumors emerged just hours later that they were trying to get back on the show).
Speidi can be seen on the show, during taped segments in which contestants hang out in a basin of water and bugs known as the “trauma tank,” but the pair decided not to participate in the challenge that was eventually won by the guys’ team, thanks to former “American Idol” contestant Sanjaya Malakar.
The pair were later seen talking with fellow contestant Stephen Baldwin, sharing religious views. (Spencer told him that Heidi said God will answer his prayers — as evidenced by the time that he prayed to hang out with Miley Cyrus and it actually happened!)
The duo had to compete against each other to win food for their team. Their challenge? To find as many star cut-outs as possible in the snake- and rat-filled chamber. “I’m about to go on a competition against my wife, and I’m going to beat her, even though she is my wife,” Spencer said. Heidi, knowing her husband so well, added that he’d throw her off a cliff to win.
Pratt managed to wrangle up two stars while Heidi only got one, making him the winner of a meal for his team. “I, of course, won because what I do, I win at,” he said. “Not even Spencer Pratt knows what he’s going to do — where I think I might quit, I might end up staying and winning the whole thing.”
Calling the trial his “goodbye trial,” he announced to the group that “he’s too rich and too famous” to stay in the jungle, before getting into an argument with Janice Dickinson about religion and getting baptized by Stephen Baldwin in the nearby river. “I feel like I just took a 10-year bath,” he said afterward.
ZAC EFRON TO BRING HIS ‘ENTOURAGE’ TO HBO
Posted by: | CommentsAn onlooker says he and the Entourage film crew arrived around 9AM before the store opened to shoot the scene. None of the regular guys were in the scene with Zac. One Niketown employee said, “He was filming a scene and talking on his cell phone. None of the other Entourage
Season six of Entourage is slated to premiere on HBO July 12th. Other anticipated celebrity guest stars appearing as themselves in season six include Lil Wayne, Tom Brady, LeBron James, and Aaron Sorkin.
WILL JAMES CAMERON BE KING OF THE GAMING WORLD?
Posted by: | CommentsThe E3 Expo is happening in Los Angeles this week and director James “I don’t go back” Cameron was on hand to talk about the new video game based on his AVATAR film.
IGN scored an exclusive interview with the man after his presentation. He talked at length about the development process of the game with Ubisoft as well as a little bit about the film due out in theaters this December.
WILL SEQUEL BE ‘HEATHERS: THE NEXT GENERATION’?
Posted by: | CommentsHow very”…encouraging. After months of speculation, Winona Ryder said in an interview appearing in the July issue of Empire that a sequel to the 1988 cult film is in the works. “I swear to God,” she said. “But for some reason Dan [Waters, writer] and Michael [Lehmann, director] don’t want to talk about it.” Maybe you shouldn’t be talking about it then, lady! Oh, but she went on. “There is a story, and Christian [Slater] has agreed to come back as a kind of Obi-Wan character.”
This just got good. When I first heard rumors of a “new Heathers,” I imagined a pointless remake along the lines of Footloose or the recently announced Girls Just Want To Have Fun. But a sequel? I love Heathers more than I love BBQ Corn Nuts, but how exactly might a Heathers sequel work? If J.D. has become an Obi-Wan type, will Shannen Doherty play a droid who manages a vintage shop specializing in late-’80s fashion hats? Will the teen queens abandon croquet for Wii Croquet?
